The Pollinator Garden located at Rock Springs Nature Preserve(6684 Pine Ridge Drive, Denver NC) gets lots of attention—starting when Winter fades and Spring begins—and throughout the blooming season. The intent of the demonstration garden is to teach and inform visitors about the importance of pollinators and their role in our diverse ecosystem. A variety of flowers that thrive in our area, including milkweed and butterfly weed, are specifically selected and planted to attract and provide pollin and nector for bees, wasps, butterflies, and hummingbirds—typical pollinators we're familiar with. Pollinators are essential to the survival of many flowering plants, promoting the production of over 85% of our food and fiber producing crops. Visitors are also made aware that pesticides are never used in the garden area as they are harmful to the pollinators we're protecting.
Our efforts as Master Gardeners and Interns are essential for ensuring the garden environment is professionally prepared and maintained for optimum plant growth and flowering. The results of our efforts can be seen every time we're at the garden—success is evident when the flowers are 'alive' with pollinator activity.
