Respirator Fit Testing

— Written By Taylor Dill and last updated by

EPA guidelines require pesticide applicators to complete annual respiratory protection training and undergo an annual respirator fit test if they use any pesticide in which the label requires the use of a respirator. This includes many commonly-applied pesticides such as paraquat, acephate, etc.

Prior to coming for the respirator fit test, you must obtain a medical
clearance to wear a respirator. You can complete this requirement online (visit Resp Exam or Resp Clearance) or at a local doctor’s office.

You must be clean-shaven wherever the mask makes contact to seal (even if you are able to get a good seal otherwise).

We will NOT be able to do a fit testing if the two requirements above are not met.

Please contact Taylor Dill for more information, and make plans to attend this session if you need to wear a respirator in your work with pesticides. You can bring your own respirator to the fit test if you have one. If not, we will have several options that you can try on to get a proper fit.
